Description
A substantial Moorish Revival hanging lantern of octagonal architectural form, constructed from hand-worked copper-alloy sheet metal with extensive pierced geometric decoration and coloured embossed glass inserts. Of particular note are the four corner ventilation turrets, pierced crown, embossed decorative glass borders and original hinged access door retaining its hand-formed S-hook closure. The lantern has subsequently been electrified for modern use.
Catalogue note
Hand-cut fretwork, individually formed ventilation turrets and hand-finished soldered construction indicate traditional manufacture. The architectural scale and complexity suggest production for a substantial domestic, hospitality or institutional interior.
