A finely crafted pair of Victorian Galilean field binoculars by the London optical and scientific instrument makers Pastorelli & Rapkin. The binoculars feature brass construction, a blackened exterior finish, original eyepieces and central focusing mechanism. The eyepiece rim is marked with the maker’s name and the Hatton Garden, London address.

Pastorelli & Rapkin are associated with nineteenth-century London optical and scientific instruments, including binoculars, opera glasses, barometers and related precision instruments. The Hatton Garden address is an important maker/address mark, but the form and central focusing construction are most consistent with a Victorian date rather than an early Georgian date.
